Celebrating the first 100 years of the
West Wittering Memorial Hall.
We welcomed the Southern Rolls-Royce Enthusiast Club and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd to the Memorial Hall.
Following their service in memory of Sir Henry Royce the members exhibited their Rolls-Royce motor cars, happily discussing the finer details with interested visitors.
To highlight the 100 years of the Memorial Hall, there was a 1922 model, provided by one of the club members alongside a 2022 model, kindly provided by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd.
The Memorial Hall rededication service was conducted by the Rev. Jonathan Swindells.
This was followed by the unveiling of the new memorial plaque, by Melanie Gray, great great niece of Lillian Fairbrother Ramsay. Miss Ramsay was one of the founder members of the Hall and also held the position of chairman for 38 years.
Refreshments were enjoyed afterwards, including a slice of the Centenary Celebration cake.
The Cententenary Celebration Weekend was a great success, with exhibits and stands from many local groups, trusts and user groups showing how they have supported the Hall or made use of the Hall over the years.
A Timeline of the Memorial Hall, extracted from the records held by the Hall, was also on display, depicting key events and extensions made to the building.
With over 230 visitors enjoying the exhibition, it was wonderful hearing the stories of years gone by.
If you have any old photographs or newspaper articles that would be of interest to other local residents, please contact me via the Contacts page.
